Hey Dollfaces!
I am beyond excited, since I received my first ever pair of Circle Lenses! woo hoo! If you don’t know what they are, they’re special fashion contacts made and sold in Korea, Japan, and China, made to make the eye look larger and glossier. I ordered mine from kawaiilovebeauty.com, in the Princess Mimi Bambi Apple Green. As you can see, I also ordered some eyelashes :p
Well, thisĀ being my first time ever trying contacts (okay not the first ever, but the first time was an epic fail). Actually, this time was an epic fail too. All that eye rinse and contact solution I got did a terrible number on my eye! I soaked my new lenses for 6 hours as directed, washed my hands thoroughly, more than once, and rinsed my lenses well with the saline solution, and for the life of me, I couldn’t get the stupid lenses in my eye. But I irritated my right eye pretty badly. Also, while trying to insert the lenses, the sting from the solution was just intense and generally no bueno.
I woke up after having gone to bed, and my eye was crusted closed and swollen and covered in yellow gunk! And geez did it hurt. Gross! I knew immediately the problem was the chemicals in the evil, commercially produced eye care products! Nooooooo! Actually, I had a bad feeling when I got the stuff that it was probably not going to go well, but I figured I should trust it this time, since I know NOTHING about wearing contacts. I should’ve gotten the products from my local organic grocery, but silly me, I did not, and I’m glad, because I ended up making my own contact solution and eye wash, and HOLY CRAP it was free and effective, woot! :P
So, I’m not a doctor, but it so happens that I’m pretty witchy, and I love plants! Herbs are good! I much prefer to make my own, all natural home remedies as opposed to going out and buying some crap that has ingredients I can’t pronounce, or overpriced stuff from the organic stores. I know that tears are just water and salt. That’s it. Not hydrogen peroxide, or ummmm Naphazoline…whatever the heck that is. I know foreign objects going in my eye (such as dust, debris, sticks, cats etc) would get flushed out with a combination of salt and water from my tears and the water from the sink or wherever. So, it kinda stands to reason that foreign objects I’m intentionally placing in my eye, should be treated as if they are part of my eyes, ie; NOT CHEMICALS! Therefore, with my swollen, red, crusty eye, and a bout of determination to wear my lovely new contacts (darnit!), I decided that the obvious thing to do, would be to, once again, take matters into my own hands. The most important thing to remember is to keep your containers and bottles sterile. I boiled my container for about 30 mins before putting my solution in it. Here’s the recipe I used. Change it every 2-3 days to keep it sterile and fresh!
Ingredients:
2 cups distilled water (I used tap, and it was cool, but I suggest getting the best quality you can find, distilled or otherwise)
2 tsp. kosher or organic salt (DO NOT USE IODIZED TABLE SALT!)
1 tbs. honey ( you can also use vinegar or hydrogen peroxide, but honey is naturally 99.9% anti-bacterial and seems much gentler, but is equally effective, if not more so)
1 bag of Chamomile & Lavender Tea (green tea, chamomile, marigold, and eyebright are all great herbs to use)
Directions: Combine everything in a clean and sterile pot. Bring to a boil. Boil for 20-30 mins. Allow to cool. Transfer to sterile lens cases, and sterile bottles for storage. Can be used for 2-3 days before changing. Can also be used as a sterilizing mouth and wound wash.
See? Easy peasy! And the awesome thing is, it’s cheap, it’s natural, it works, and is oh so comfortable to keep dripping into my eye. I swear, as soon as i put a few drops in my sad, infected eye, the pain went away immediately. The redness reduced immediately, the stupid yellow gunk disappeared! I was so relieved, I almost cried. But I just giggled. I barely missed killing my poor eyes! I refuse to touch that store bought stuff anymore. My lenses are now soaking in my new solution while my eye clears up some more. Hopefully, by morning after a few more drops, it will be completely healed. I have a tiny bit of soreness and what feels like what may be a very tiny scratch (probably from rubbing my eyes so much, aaaahhhhhhhh!) I’m pretty sure the stinging caused me to rub so much that I scratched my eye and got the stuff in it as well. No more! I hope this helps all of you. I’ll be back to report the awesomeness of my contacts soon. xoxoxoxoxoxo
